Ukraine has recorded a significant increase in the volume of newly planted orchards since the beginning of 2023 compared to previous years, exceeding the annual average before the land reform. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, 2.5 thousand hectares of new gardens have been registered, compared to the usual annual volume of up to 1 thousand hectares.

The Ministry emphasizes that the land market reform has created favorable conditions for the development of agricultural enterprises. Denys Bashlyk, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization, believes that this helps attract investment in perennial plantings on leased land, which was previously difficult for farmers to access.

Ukrainian horticultural products are in demand on the foreign market. Last year, the largest buyers of Ukrainian horticultural products were Poland ($108 million), Germany ($29 million), France ($20 million), Italy ($19 million), the Netherlands ($16 million), Austria ($14 million), the Czech Republic ($11 million), and Azerbaijan ($10 million).

In particular, Ukrainian frozen berries and fruits are mainly exported to Poland, Germany, and Italy (71%). As for walnuts, the main importing countries are France, Azerbaijan, and Greece (36%).
