Ukrainian gas industry is facing a crisis

Ukraine's gas production industry is facing a crisis due to the inaction of the Interdepartmental Commission on International Trade, which did not extend the price commitments for plants that produce drill and casing pipes ordered by an American company. This was reported by journalist Olga Petriv in the article "Interpipe is destroying the gas production industry in Ukraine with the help of officials" for Ukrainian National News.

The American company Vorex, which wins tenders for the supply of drill and casing pipes for the gas production industry of Ukraine, began to actively enter the Ukrainian market after the introduction of the public bidding system through Prozorro. The anti-dumping investigation against foreign factories producing pipe for Vorex was initiated by Interpipe, which had previously supplied pipe to state customers.

Ukrgasvydobuvannya, which now needs drill pipe, has become heavily dependent on external supplies. The absence of drill pipe and casing may lead to higher purchase prices and additional costs of more than half a billion hryvnias for Ukrgasvydobuvannya.

The problem has been brought to the attention of the U.S. Congress, and relevant appeals have been sent to the U.S. and Ukrainian authorities. The author of the article emphasizes that this situation could lead to a disruption of the Ukrainian gas drilling program, a drop in production, and an energy crisis with the possibility of disconnecting businesses and households from gas supply.
