Ukraine will be allowed to export sugar in limited quantities until September 15 this year, but only to Romania, the Cabinet of Ministers decided at its meeting on July 7. The quota for sugar exports was set at 20 thousand tons. This was announced by the government's representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.
This decision amends the volume of quotas for goods whose exports are subject to licensing, according to Resolution No. 1466 of December 27, 2022. Applications for licenses will be considered in accordance with the procedure established by the Ministry of Economy.
Licenses for sugar exports to Romania will be issued on the basis of applications and approvals of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food. They will be issued within one day without the participation of foreign economic entities, within the framework of interagency information exchange.
It is worth reminding that on May 30, the government set a zero quota for sugar exports from June 5 to September 15. This decision was made by the Ministry of Economy to avoid a shortage of sugar in the domestic market and a corresponding increase in prices.
According to the Ministry, the domestic market supply for the 2022/2023 marketing year is estimated at 1.776 million tons of sugar, including production of 1.285 million tons and carry-over stocks. It is projected that 1.01 million tons will be used to meet domestic consumption, and annual sugar exports are projected at 370 thousand tons.
The Ukrtsukor Association said that the ban on sugar exports until mid-September will put Ukrainian producers in a difficult situation, as they will not be able to fulfill their contracts and receive foreign currency.
