The Threads app, created by Meta as a Twitter competitor, quickly reached the 100 million user mark just a few days after its launch. This happened much faster than in the case of ChatGPT by OpenAI, which took two months to reach this milestone.
According to The Verge, the Threads app became a hit almost immediately. In the first two hours, it attracted 2 million users and continued to grow rapidly - 5 million, 10 million, 30 million, and then 70 million.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the launch of Threads "exceeded expectations."
Today, the Threads app already has more than 95 million posts and 190 million likes.
However, despite its success, the Threads app is still in the early stages of development, and it remains to be seen if it can gain the same general popularity that Twitter once had.
According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, Meta is not aiming to replace Twitter, and the company will not actively promote "political and complex news" on the Threads app platform, The Verge reports.
