The US House of Representatives has passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2024, which sets out the Pentagon's policy and authorizes $886 billion in spending.

According to Reuters, the document provides for $300 million in aid to Ukraine in response to Russia's invasion, as well as pay raises for US military personnel and initiatives to counter China.

Democrats and Republicans considered 200 amendments, and the debate lasted until midnight. As a result, a compromise was reached on some issues, in particular, the Democrats agreed to concessions.

However, an amendment that proposed to exclude $300 million in aid to Ukraine from the defense budget was rejected (89 voted in favor, 358 against). One of the Republicans submitted an amendment demanding that all security assistance to Ukraine be cut off. It was supported by 70 votes, but 358 were against.

The administration of President Joseph Biden proposed exactly $300 million in aid for Ukraine, although last year $800 million was provided.

Now the bill must be considered by the Senate, which will consider it on Tuesday, July 18.

As a reminder, the United States recently announced additional security assistance to Ukraine to meet its critical needs.

Earlier, on June 27, a military aid package worth up to $500 million was announced, and the previous announcement was made two weeks ago, on June 13.
