The Ukrainian brewing industry has shown impressive growth in beer production during the first half of 2023, up 112.5% year-on-year. This was reported by Ukrpyvo, the industry organization of brewers. Despite this positive growth, it is important to note that beer production has not yet returned to the level recorded before the war.

In January-June 2023, 65.2 million dal of beer (excluding non-alcoholic beer) were produced, which is only 76.9% of the production volume for the same period in 2021. Last year, after a partial recovery from Russia's invasion, beer production in Ukraine decreased by 27.9% to 122.8 million dal.

The return of the brewing industry to pre-war levels is an important goal for the development of the Ukrainian economy and domestic consumption. After the difficulties caused by the conflict in the east of the country, the industry is trying to get back on its feet and regain its lost market position. However, despite the growth in the first half of 2023, a lot of effort is still needed to reach the pre-war levels.

The new environment and geopolitical factors pose challenges for the brewing industry in Ukraine, but the industry has shown resilience and readiness to adapt to them. The gradual economic recovery and the attraction of investments in beer production can contribute to the further development of the industry and increase its contribution to the country's GDP.

To ensure the sustainable development of the brewing industry in Ukraine, the government, together with the companies, may consider measures aimed at stimulating the domestic market and exports. Introducing state support, reducing the tax burden on enterprises, and supporting domestic producers can help develop the industry and increase its competitiveness in the international market.
