The European Defense Agency (EDA) has reaffirmed its support for Ukraine by signing the first contracts for the joint procurement of artillery shells. The agreement concerns 155-mm ammunition that will be transferred to the Ukrainian military.

This was reported by the EDA press service.

The agreement was signed in Brussels on September 5. EU Chief Diplomat Josep Borrell noted that 8 defense contracts were signed. Now, EU countries and Norway will be able to purchase ammunition through the defense agency, which will act as a procurement agency.

The EU members will collect universal shells for the most common artillery howitzers, such as the French Caesar, Polish Krab, German Panzerhaubitze 2000, and Slovak Zuzana.

Other framework contracts for the purchase of artillery systems will soon be signed. This is a positive signal of support for Ukraine in the face of the escalating situation in the east.

Ukraine will receive support and the opportunity to strengthen its defense capabilities through the joint efforts of the EU and Norway. Artillery shells will become an important addition to the arsenal of Ukrainian troops in the context of ensuring national security and territorial integrity of the country.
