In September 2023, Ukraine experienced a significant increase in natural gas imports from the European Union and Moldova, with imports amounting to almost 1 billion cubic meters of gas, with more than 56% of these volumes coming from the Slovak direction.

This was reported by the press service of the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU).

The largest volume of gas to Ukraine came from Slovakia, which received 552.4 million cubic meters of gas, which is 56% of total gas imports in September.

The GTSOU reported that the main volumes of gas were imported by non-resident traders for storage in Ukraine.

According to the company, such an increase in gas transportation to Ukraine from the European Union indicates a renewed confidence of foreign traders in the Ukrainian gas infrastructure.

Since April 2023, Ukraine has received more than 2.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas from the EU and Moldova. This is 270% more than the volume of gas received in April-September 2022, and 32% more than the volume of imports in the same period in 2021.

The GTSOU also reminded that during the off-heating season, 25 contracts for the provision of transportation services were concluded with foreign companies, including non-residents, and the total number of contracts with foreign customers exceeds 130.

These gas imports are very important for Ukraine, as they confirm the possibility of using the Trans-Balkan corridor to store gas from the European Union and Moldova in Ukrainian storage facilities, which is becoming a key strategy to ensure the stability of gas supply in Ukraine.
