The United States has announced a new $425 million aid package for Ukraine to address urgent security needs. The announcement was made by the U.S. Department of Defense.

The package includes up to $125 million worth of ammunition from Pentagon stockpiles for immediate use in Ukraine's combat needs.

This assistance includes additional ammunition for NASAMS and HIMARS air defense missile systems, 155 mm and 105 mm artillery shells, TOW anti-tank missiles, Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems, and more than 3 million rounds of small arms ammunition and grenades.

Ukraine will also receive explosive ordnance for clearing obstacles, M18A1 Claymore anti-personnel mines, 12 trucks for transporting heavy weapons, as well as unspecified cold weather gear, spare parts and other field equipment.

Additionally, $300 million will be allocated from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) to strengthen air defense in the long term. This initiative includes contracts for the purchase of additional laser-guided munitions to combat attack drones.

It is noteworthy that the Pentagon emphasizes that after the allocation of these $300 million, the available funds under USAI for Ukraine will be exhausted. U.S. officials emphasize that assistance to Ukraine's security is an investment in U.S. national security that helps prevent further conflict in the region and deter possible aggression in other parts of the world, while strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base and creating jobs for Americans.
