Cases of African swine fever have been detected in the Poltava region, leading to the introduction of quarantine and the definition of protection and surveillance zones in several districts. This was announced by the head of the regional military administration, Philip Pronin.
In less than two weeks, African swine fever was detected in three districts of Poltava region, which led to the introduction of quarantine in the territories of Opishnya, Hradyha and Khorol communities. Protection zones were defined within a 3 km radius, including the villages of Lazky, Mozoliivka, Yalosovetske, Roplianske and Pavlenky.
The head of the Poltava Regional State Administration noted that state veterinarians and representatives of local governments are conducting house-to-house visits in these zones, registering pigs and planning their slaughter.
Surveillance zones were introduced in a number of villages, where veterinarians keep records of animals and ensure their veterinary condition. These villages include Batky, Bezruky, Hlynske, Pronozivka, Vaskivka, Kahamlyk, Kyriakivka, Vyshenky, Pelekhivshchyna, Petrashivka, Brovarky, Shushvalivka, Kostiuky, Demina Balka, Verbyne, Novoivanivka, Barylivka, Lahodivka, Chervone, Brigadyrivka, Mykolaivka, Kulyky and Trubaytsi.
Experts advise pig owners to avoid strangers on their farms, keep animals away from others, and avoid animal feed and untreated food waste. It is also important to conduct regular veterinary examinations, vaccinations and other measures.
It is forbidden to dispose of pig bodies and their remains in landfills or near roads. The sale of pig meat is only possible with the approval of veterinary experts.
The local population is urged to refrain from buying pigs from unverified outlets without supporting documents, especially in areas with an increased risk of infectious diseases. The head of the Poltava Regional State Administration called for responsibility and caution, following the recommendations of experts.
