In the third quarter of this year, the Danish economy recorded a decline, entering recession, which was caused by a significant decline in the production of pharmaceuticals. This is reflected in the latest economic indicators and data from Statistics Denmark.
The country's GDP decreased by 0.3% in the third quarter compared to the previous one, against the background of a similar decline in the second quarter. An important reason for this was a significant crisis in the pharmaceutical industry, which led to a decline in production.
According to the report of the Statistical Office, production in the pharmaceutical industry decreased by 10.6% in the quarter. The country's largest pharmaceutical company, Novo Nordisk A/S, was the most affected by the decline due to production problems, although its products are known for their high demand in the diabetes and obesity market.
Senior Economist at Sydbank A/S Mathias Dollerup Sprogel notes that this latest GDP dynamic is in line with the overall slowdown in Europe. In particular, the pharmaceutical industry has actually "camouflaged the real slowdown in the Danish economy" in recent quarters.
In neighboring Germany, there was a slight economic decline of 0.1% in the third quarter, while in Sweden and the UK, GDP remained stable. This makes the problems in pharmacy in Denmark one of the key reasons for its economic difficulties.
With the crisis in the pharmaceutical industry and the complication of the economic situation in Denmark, there is a need to improve production and support strategies for the industry to overcome the challenges and restore stability to the country's economy.
