Ukraine's power grid is facing a serious situation due to a power shortage that was recorded on September 29 at 13:00. The reason for this was a sharp increase in electricity consumption due to colder weather and deteriorating weather conditions, as well as the simultaneous connection of consumers from the regions affected by the weather.
"Ukrenergo reported that due to the increase in consumption, power plants cannot provide enough electricity to meet the needs of consumers. The low efficiency of solar power plants due to cloudy weather and thermal power units that have not yet been repaired is aggravating the situation.
Power engineers urge households and businesses to save electricity throughout the day, leave only necessary appliances running, and postpone all non-urgent activities to the evening and night after 18:00 to avoid possible blackouts.
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy reported that a unit at one of the thermal power plants was taken out of scheduled maintenance, adding an additional 180 MW of capacity to the grid. However, the energy ministry emphasized the need for careful use of electricity.
The power grid is currently experiencing a difficult situation, and imported electricity may not be enough to cover the possible shortfall. Ukraine has the ability to import up to a maximum of 609 MW, which may not be enough in the event of a serious shortage, as the technically possible maximum is 1200 MW.
