A unique greenhouse complex using geothermal energy is to be built in Lviv region

Construction of a new greenhouse complex will begin in Lviv region, which will be the first in Ukraine and one of the few in the world to use geothermal energy. This was announced by the head of the Lviv regional government, Maksym Kozytskyi. The project involves growing tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, and peppers. Investments in this innovative project amount to about 70 million euros.

Kozytskyi noted that this project is unique to Ukraine, and there are only a few similar complexes in the world. According to him, the greenhouse complex will grow tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and lettuce, which is especially important due to the temporary occupation of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, which previously supplied the bulk of greenhouse vegetables to Ukraine.

The greenhouse complex will cover 15 hectares and employ 180 people, with investments of around EUR 70 million. Construction is scheduled to begin next year, and the first phase is expected to be launched in 2025.

The main advantage of using geothermal resources is that the greenhouse complex will not depend on gas supply. It is estimated that gas savings will amount to 8 million cubic meters annually, which will allow the company to supply vegetables at affordable prices.

The project will be implemented by Triosan Holding Ukraine, initiated by the Lviv regional authorities. The relevant Memorandum of Cooperation was signed on November 28, and the project costs will be covered by the company itself, which has already signed an agreement with an American financial company.
