Boycott of Polish carriers: EU responds to Ukraine border blockade

In response to the blockade of the border between Poland and Ukraine, which has been going on for more than a month, trade associations and unions from at least four EU countries have called for a boycott of Polish carriers.

"According to Ukrinform, the trade unions issued an appeal calling on all EU companies and their transport sectors to refrain from renewing old contracts and signing new ones with Polish carriers until the Polish-Ukrainian border is restored.

The signatories emphasize that the blockade has led to higher prices and fuel shortages in Ukraine, and in November, exports from the country decreased by 40%, leading to the deaths of two drivers in a line of more than 2,500 trucks.

In their opinion, the EU boycott should encourage Polish carriers to quickly end the blockade.

The appeal notes that the Western European market is more important for Polish companies, and European transportation sectors can interact without harming a country that is fighting hard for its independence.

This appeal was signed by representatives of important organizations such as the Belgium-Ukraine Business Club, the Ukrainian-Austrian Association, the Netherlands-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce and the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce in Italy.
