Prices for tomatoes in Ukraine have reached a new record level, caused by a noticeable increase in demand before the New Year holidays, which is causing an active price increase in the Ukrainian market, according to analysts of the EastFruit project.
According to the daily monitoring of the project, imported tomatoes produced in Turkey are currently sold for an average of 80-90 UAH/kg, which is 21% more expensive than at the end of the last business week.
It is important to note that imported tomatoes from Turkey currently account for the bulk of supply on the Ukrainian market.
Analysts emphasize that even with the help of imported products, it was not possible to fully satisfy the demand, which led to the possibility of further increase in selling prices for existing batches of products.
It is noted that today imported tomatoes in Ukraine are sold on average 32% more expensive than in the same period last year. Considering the five-year dynamics, wholesale prices for tomatoes have reached new record highs this season.
Analysts have a forecast for the near-term outlook for the situation, and they do not rule out the possibility of further price increases for greenhouse vegetables, at least until the supply meets all consumer needs in this segment.
