Starting from December 2023, carrot prices in Ukraine have been growing steadily, according to EastFruit analysts. This dynamic has intensified over the past two weeks, pushing the cost of the root crop to new records.
According to the analysis, Ukrainian producers are now selling quality carrots for 11 to 15 UAH/kg ($0.29-0.40/kg). This is 10% higher compared to the end of the previous week. However, market experts note that the price increase was recorded only for high quality carrots, which are actively purchased for further storage.
The main factor that led to the price increase was the high demand before the New Year holidays. Wholesale companies and retail chains are actively stockpiling carrots and are ready to consider raising purchase prices, particularly for high-quality products.
It is important to note that even with the price increase, carrots on the Ukrainian market remain on average 25% cheaper than in the same period last year. EastFruit experts point out that the price dynamics may continue to grow due to the decrease in the volume of carrots in the storages of producers.
The price situation is forcing consumers to look for budget alternatives, as the cost of this vegetable is rising, but remains affordable compared to last year.
