This year, Ukraine has allocated significant funds for the modernization of school shelters, including UAH 2.5 billion in the state budget. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a government meeting. The government's goal is to ensure an adequate level of safety for students and teachers by increasing the availability of school shelters from 88% to 100% by the end of 2024.

Currently, 88% of schools are covered by school shelters and 93% of students and teachers are safe. However, the government has launched an initiative to modernize and renovate those shelters that need improvement. In total, UAH 2.5 billion has been allocated from the state budget for this purpose.

According to Shmyhal, there are already 60.5 thousand shelters in the civil defense fund. According to the requirements, each of them must be inclusive, safe, comfortable and within walking distance.

Ukrainian schools are also implementing the Educational Security Service, for which 500 trained police officers have been appointed and will soon begin their service. This is one of the measures within the framework of a comprehensive security concept for educational institutions, which includes safe transportation of students, fire and industrial safety, an early warning and evacuation system, and a clear algorithm for dealing with dangerous situations.
