Temporary sea corridor: Ukraine restores export capacity

Ukraine's temporary sea corridor, which has become an alternative to the "grain corridor" due to Russia's invasion, is returning to its pre-war capacity. This was reported by Dmytro Pletenchuk, a spokesman for the Ukrainian Navy, emphasizing the successful results of exports through this route. According to Pletenchuk, 500 ships have already passed through, transporting more than 10 million tons of cargo, the bulk of which is Ukrainian grain.

The ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi are actively using the sea corridor, where dozens of ships are being loaded. The spokesperson emphasized that the grain deal is being supported by dozens of vessels, which proves its success. The ports of Kherson and Mykolaiv regions, which were temporarily closed, are now also actively working.

Saviano Abreu of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs believes that alternative corridors are less sustainable and predictable than the grain deal. Nevertheless, he expressed the opinion that the "grain deal" was an effective system that guaranteed the safety of ships during their movement.

Since the start of the temporary maritime corridor in August 2023, Ukraine has exported 15 million tons of products, including 10 million tons of agricultural products. These figures demonstrate the high efficiency of the temporary maritime corridor, which has become an important alternative to Ukrainian exports and helped overcome the difficulties associated with Russia's grain blockade.
