Prices for white cabbage in Ukraine have changed, falling after two weeks of stability. According to analysts at EastFruit, farmers are now selling high-quality cabbage for UAH 8-12 per kilogram, a 17% decrease compared to the beginning of the week. Despite this drop, prices remain 33% higher than in February last year.
The decline in prices is due to lower demand and deteriorating quality of cabbage due to prolonged storage. Farmers, faced with lower demand and deteriorating quality, are forced to reduce prices by selling large quantities of products.
In mid-January, prices for white cabbage ranged from UAH 8 to UAH 13 per kilogram, which was on average 30% higher than prices at the beginning of the month.
The situation on the market for other vegetables is also not unrelated. Onions are rapidly rising in price, up 20% over the course of the week, mainly due to a limited supply of low-quality products. Potatoes and beetroot have also been affected, with the former rising by 17% and the latter experiencing a decline in prices.
Another unexpected trend is a drop in prices for table beets, which are now worth less than last year's level, being sold by farmers for 5-8 UAH per kilogram.
