Potato market crisis in Ukraine: farmers are forced to cut prices

16 фев, 10:30

The Ukrainian market is experiencing a continued decline in demand for potatoes, which has forced farmers to cut prices. According to the EastFruit analytical project, quality potatoes are already being sold for 14-20 UAH per kilogram, which is on average 12% cheaper than last week.

Experts note a significant increase in the supply of potatoes on the Ukrainian market this week. This is due to the fact that farmers who previously held back sales, expecting prices to rise, have now begun to actively sell their products.

"Farmers are forced to make this decision due to the decline in demand and deterioration in product quality," analysts emphasize.

Potato sales in Ukraine have dropped significantly in the last few days, but the price drop did not save the situation, according to producers.

Currently, farmers are ready to sell quality potatoes for 14-20 UAH per kilogram, which is on average 12% cheaper than last week, but buyer interest remains low.

Experts note that potato prices in Ukraine are on average one-third higher than in the same period last year. Given the low demand, Ukrainian farmers anticipate further price reductions.

It is worth noting that for the first time since October 2023, potato prices in Ukraine have declined. High prices on the domestic market prompted imports, and now, in addition to domestic products, the market also includes potatoes from Poland.
