The total catch of aquatic bioresources in Ukraine increased by 13% compared to the previous year. According to the State Fisheries Agency, in 2023, Ukrainian fishermen caught 38.2 thousand tons of fish and other aquatic bioresources, which is 4.4 thousand tons more than in 2022.

Last year, commercial fishermen harvested 11.2 thousand tons of aquatic bioresources in fishery water bodies and on the continental shelf of Ukraine, which is 11% more than in the previous year.

It is worth noting that due to Russia's armed aggression, fishing in the Black Sea and Azov regions was effectively blocked. Also, the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP led to the drainage of the Kakhovka Reservoir, which affected commercial fishing.

In 2023, 9.7 thousand tons of commercial aquaculture products were also sold. In addition, special commercial fish farms harvested 4.3 thousand tons of aquatic bioresources, which is 27% more than in the previous year.

Vessels flying the national flag of Ukraine in the area of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources harvested 12.9 thousand tons of aquatic bioresources, which is 34% more than in 2022.

In addition, fisheries entities paid more than UAH 6 million to local budgets for the special use of Antarctic, Patagonian toothfish and Antarctic krill.
