Refineries in India have stopped accepting oil from Russian tankers

Indian oil refineries, including such giants as Indian Oil Corp. have decided to stop accepting oil products transported by Russian Sovcomflot tankers. This action followed the announcement of certain sanctions by the United States against the Russian company. According to Bloomberg, this decision is a reaction to the growing pressure of international sanctions against Russia.

According to the source, companies specializing in oil refining are now scrutinizing the origin of each vessel to ensure that they have no ties to Sovcomflot or any other sanctioned company.

Earlier this week, Reliance Industries Ltd., India's largest private refiner, also stopped accepting oil products transported by Sovcomflot tankers. This action was also the result of the growing pressure that accompanies the imposition of sanctions.

According to information from the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, Sovcomflot was added to the sanctions list last month. As a result, 14 oil tankers were identified as being associated with the Russian company.

This decision was part of broader measures taken against oil ships and companies that violated established pricing standards. It is known that after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, India became one of the main importers of Russian oil.

However, due to the tightening of sanctions by the United States, oil trade between the two countries has been disrupted, and refiners are looking for alternative sources of supply, including, for example, the United States.
