According to the experts of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, only up to 10% of winter crops are expected to be in poor condition when the country comes out of the wintering period. This estimate was made public in a report received by APK-Inform.
Experts note that the winter period of 2023-2024 was favorable for wintering of winter crops. Currently, they are assessed as good and satisfactory. However, by early spring, 6-10% of the crops are expected to be in a weak or sparse condition, which is within the natural range of thinness.
With daytime temperatures rising above 5°C, growth processes in winter cereal plants are slow. This leads to the formation of nodal roots and an increase in the wet weight of plants and growth cones.
Experts noted that such a course of spring creates favorable conditions for spring tillering of winter crops. They emphasized that early spring fertilization is important as it stimulates plant growth and development, and further foliar feeding will help stabilize their growth.
These measures are expected to contribute to the formation of a strong leaf surface and a good harvest in the future.
