Ukraine and Slovakia are actively working to create a new international railway route connecting Kyiv and Kosice. According to the press service of the Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, the launch of this route is scheduled for 2024.

The decision to establish a direct rail link between Kyiv and Kosice was approved by the Government of the Slovak Republic. According to Denisa Žilakova, State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport of the Slovak Republic, this route will be an additional means of communication that will allow Ukrainians to use the services of the international airport in Kosice more conveniently.

According to the plans, the train from Kyiv will go to Haniska station, located near Košice, through the Pavlovo-Matovske Vojkovce border crossing. Organizational and preparatory work before the launch of the route will include equipping the premises for border and customs control, changing the platform at Haniska station, preparing a bus service from Haniska to the airport and Kosice railway station, concluding contracts for transportation services with the Slovak Railways, and finding sources of funding for the project.

The creation of this route opens up new opportunities for passengers from both countries. It will promote tourism, increase the level of communication between Ukraine and Slovakia, and contribute to the economic growth of both countries.

The governments of both countries recognize the importance of such international projects aimed at improving infrastructure and increasing connectivity between the countries. They reaffirm their readiness to work together to implement such initiatives to provide additional opportunities for citizens and develop international cooperation.
