Ukraine: Return to container transportation from the ports of Greater Odesa

08 апр, 09:30

According to Marinetraffic reports, on April 3, the first container ship sailed through the sea corridor to one of the ports of Greater Odesa, namely the port of Chornomorsk. This happened for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale war. The next day, on April 4, the vessel started its return trip to the Romanian port of Constanta.

The first container ship to sail through the Ukrainian sea corridor was a cargo ship flying the flag of Panama. It measured 105 meters in length and 17 meters in width.

The maritime corridor was restored in August 2023, when Russia finally withdrew from the Grain Initiative and launched systematic attacks on port infrastructure and agricultural facilities.

Over the past seven months, 33.8 million tons of cargo have been exported through the Ukrainian sea corridor. This figure exceeds the export volumes for the entire year of the Grain Initiative, in which the UN, Russia and Turkey participated.

"Today, 1140 ships have passed through the Ukrainian corridor, exporting 33.8 million tons of cargo to 40 countries. Of these, 23.1 million tons are the products of Ukrainian farmers," said Oleksandr Kubrakov, Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure.

The resumption of container transportation from the ports of Greater Odesa is an important step for Ukraine in restoring international trade relations and ensuring stability in the country's economy. Such events help support economic development and position Ukraine as a reliable and competitive partner in the global market.
