Ukraine is facing a possible loss of one billion euros due to the planned trade restrictions of the European Union on certain types of agricultural products. This was stated by Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, on Ukrainian Radio.

The new agreement with the EU provides for certain restrictions for Ukraine, which differ from the conditions of trade liberalization that were in force during 2023. In particular, certain products, such as honey, cereals, corn, poultry, eggs, and sugar, will be subject to restrictions that could lead to significant financial losses for Ukraine.

Marchuk emphasized that as a result of these restrictions, Ukraine could lose about a billion euros within a year, which could be used to support the country's defense capabilities in the context of a military conflict with Russia.

He also expressed outrage that the agreement with the EU pays attention to competition from Ukrainian products, but does not take into account the impact of Russian goods on the European market.

Marchuk expressed hope that the conflict with Polish farmers over the transit of Ukrainian grain would be resolved, but emphasized the difficulties in negotiations between Ukraine and Poland on the transit of goods.

The EU-Ukraine trade agreement has to be finally approved by the European Parliament and the European Council. The agreement is now expected to be published in the EU's Official Journal before entering into force.
