A garment factory has opened in Nizhyn, with support from the EU and the UN

A new municipal garment factory has opened in the city of Nizhyn, Chernihiv Oblast, with the support of the European Union and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) through the Mayors for Economic Growth project. The news was officially announced by the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

According to the Delegation, about 30 residents of the Nizhyn community, including internally displaced persons, will find jobs at the new production facility.

"The project in Nizhyn is just one of a number of projects that have received financial support and are being implemented by communities. This helps the population to have better access to services and new economic opportunities," the representative office noted.

The project provides employment not only for local residents but also for internally displaced persons. Both experienced craftsmen and those with minimal experience in this field can work at the garment factory, as they will receive training and the opportunity to learn a new profession.

This project promotes social integration and improves the psycho-emotional state of displaced people, helping them to adapt to new living conditions.

"We are proud to help Ukrainian cities and citizens affected by the war. Through initiatives such as Mayors for Economic Growth, we are empowering communities to rebuild and prosper," said Jaco Silje, UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine.

Henrik Witfeld, acting Head of Operations, Economic Cooperation, Energy, Infrastructure and Environment, Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, emphasized that the EU remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine and in these difficult times is investing in the future of Ukrainian communities, stimulating job creation and social integration.

This project is a joint initiative of the European Union and the United Nations Development Program and was launched in 2017. Its goal is to support local authorities in the Eastern Partnership countries. The project is being implemented with the help of UNDP.
