Ukrainian MPs have adopted an important draft law aimed at protecting consumer rights in the context of geopolitical realities. According to the draft law No. 11183 proposed in the Verkhovna Rada, manufacturers operating in the territory of the Russian Federation must indicate this on their product packaging in red letters on a white background, indicating that taxes are paid to the budget of the aggressor state.

According to the text of the draft law, the mandatory labeling must cover at least 30% of the packaging area. If the products themselves cannot be packaged, the relevant information must be placed near the place of sale, ensuring clear identification.

In addition to labeling on the packaging, the authors of the draft law propose to consider marking on price tags, brand logos, as well as on the offices and premises of companies that continue to operate in Russia during the military aggression against Ukraine.

According to MP Volodymyr Kreidenko, consumers have the right to information about companies that may indirectly finance military aggression. This will allow consumers to make an informed choice, avoid using services or purchasing products from such companies.

In addition, the draft law provides for administrative liability for violation of labeling rules. For example, for the sale of goods without the required markings, a penalty of two hundred percent of the value of the goods, but not less than one thousand tax-free minimum incomes, may be charged.

Overall, this draft law is an important step towards protecting consumer rights and preserving national interests in the face of geopolitical challenges. Its adoption will help to create a transparent market and provide Ukrainian consumers with the opportunity to make an informed choice when purchasing goods and services.
