Falling prices for strawberries: what is known about prices for Ukrainian berries

This week, Ukraine has seen a sharp drop in prices for strawberries grown on local farms. The price of this berry is already lower than last year, and now ranges between 35-60 hryvnias per kilogram.

This is reported by analysts from the EastFruit project.

Experts point to the sharp increase in the supply of strawberries from farms in the western regions as the main reason for this development. Despite this, the demand for this berry remains low. In the conditions of fierce competition, farmers were forced to significantly reduce prices for strawberries.

"It is important to take into account that currently the offer of local strawberries on the Ukrainian market has not yet reached its peak, and mass harvesting of this berry will begin closer to the end of the current month," analysts note.

According to EastFruit, on the eve of last weekend, farmers refused to sell strawberries from film greenhouses for a price below 60-100 hryvnias per kilogram. However, already at the beginning of the current week, when harvesting of berries from open ground in the southern and western regions began, prices fell by 40% - to 35-60 hryvnias per kilogram.

Analysts note that currently strawberry prices in Ukraine are already lower than last year.

"During the same period last year, the supply of strawberries on the Ukrainian market was significantly lower, as the season started later. As a result, strawberry prices were 40% higher than today," analysts state.
