Will vegetable prices fall: Ukraine has bought onions from Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan

22 май, 09:30

Last week, Ukraine began to receive large batches of new onions from Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, which could potentially reduce prices for this popular vegetable on the domestic market. This is reported by EastFruit.

Analysts note that the increase in onion supplies from these countries has led to a decrease in prices for quality products closer to the weekend.

According to market participants, Ukrainian producers, who managed to preserve onion stocks of the 2023 harvest, tried to increase selling prices due to the shortage of products. However, this trend lasted only until Thursday, after which prices began to decline gradually.

For example, on the largest regional trading platform EF Trade Platform, onion prices fell to 20-28 UAH/kg compared to 25-30 UAH/kg a week earlier.

Analysts predict that due to the oversupply of onions in Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries, supplies to Ukraine will be profitable even if prices continue to fall. This means that Ukrainian consumers can expect onion prices to fall in the coming weeks.

It is worth noting that the rise in the price of onions in Ukraine due to the decrease in stocks of the old harvest was quite rapid. Last week, farmers raised onion prices by an average of 17%.

Obviously, imports of onions from Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are becoming a lifeline for the Ukrainian market, reducing the shortage and stabilizing prices. This situation allows consumers to calculate.
