The State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service together with the Ministry of Digital Transformation (Ministry of Digital Transformation) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) have launched a large-scale digitization of the production and import of tobacco products in Ukraine. On June 18, the first meeting of the working group on the creation of the eTobacco project took place.

This is reported by the Government portal.

The new project envisages the launch of a specialized portal where manufacturers and importers will be able to submit information on the ingredients of tobacco products and their emissions. Consumers will have access to this information in an open data mode, which will contribute to increased awareness of product composition.

The government notes that the "eTyutyun" portal will ensure transparency in the circulation of tobacco products, allow the state to control their quality and have an accurate list of producers and importers in Ukraine. This will also be an important step in the fight against the illegal tobacco market.

"Data on the ingredients of tobacco products, which are not confidential, will be published on the portal of the State Production and Consumer Service. This will allow people to consciously choose what to consume, and whether to consume at all," Serhii Tkachuk, the head of the State Production and Consumer Service, emphasized.

The project is implemented as part of the USAID and UK aid initiative "Support for digital transformation" with the participation of the Eastern Europe Foundation. Its purpose is to implement the law on protection from the harmful effects of tobacco and approach European standards.

According to the report, the "eTobacco" portal will become operational in February 2025. By February 1, manufacturers must enter all the necessary data into the database. The system will be synchronized with a similar one in the EU, which will ensure international cooperation and compliance with European standards.

Representatives of the tobacco industry support the project, but emphasize the need to provide sufficient transition periods for adaptation to new requirements. In general, digitalization will create an effective control mechanism on the part of the state and contribute to the removal of illegal products from the market, ensuring more transparent and responsible consumption.
