Norway has embraced the unexpected and the need for grain reserves, announcing the beginning of the formation of a strategic reserve in connection with the pandemic, a possible war in Europe and climate change. This is reported by the Associated Press.

The Norwegian government has agreed to stockpile 30,000 tons of grain stocks, stressing that the events of the past year have highlighted the need for such measures. Under the agreement, the grain will be stored in warehouses owned by four private companies across Norway.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food of Norway, Geir Pollestad, noted that the creation of the reserve aims to provide the country with a sufficient supply of grain in case of crisis situations. The first step in this direction was the conclusion of contracts with private enterprises with the aim of building up reserves until 2029.

"Our goal is to have 82,500 tons of grain stocks by the end of the decade, which will ensure three months' consumption of the population in crisis conditions," Pollestad emphasized.

As of the first quarter of 2024, Norway had 5.6 million inhabitants, which indicates the need for adequate backup measures in terms of national security and resilience in the face of global turbulence.

Private companies participating in the storage of grain stocks will be obliged to ensure a high level of security and protection of material assets under their control.

It is noted that the solution of such strategic tasks is an important component of Norway's national policy in the field of economic stability and reserve of resources in unpredictable situations.
