In the first half of 2024, Ukraine exported goods worth $19.5 billion, which is identical to the figures for the same period in 2023. Despite the stable volume of exports, imports during this period increased by 4.9%, reaching $31.9 billion.
These data were announced by Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade Representative of Ukraine Taras Kachka. He noted that the total volume of exports in terms of weight increased by 35%, amounting to 71 million tons in the first half of the year.
Kachka explained that changes in the correlation of prices for the main export goods caused a situation where the volume of exports in weight terms increased significantly, but the total revenue remained stable. This indicates that the prices of the main export commodities have decreased, although their physical volume has increased.
In June, imports decreased by 5.6% and amounted to $4.8 billion. However, in the first half of the year, Ukraine imported goods worth $31.9 billion, which is 4.9% more than in the same period last year. These data indicate an active recovery of the country's import activity.
The increase in the volume of exports indicates the recovery of economic activity in Ukraine, but the stability of export revenue indicates the need to find new sales markets and increase the added value of exported goods. A significant increase in imports may be associated with the recovery of domestic consumption and the activation of production processes.
In general, stable exports and import growth in the first half of 2024 demonstrate the gradual recovery of the Ukrainian economy. This indicates positive trends that require further support from the state to ensure sustainable development.
