This week, the season of melon crops from Kiliyskyi and Tatarbunarskyi districts began at the "Pochatok" wholesale market in Odesa region. In particular, watermelons are now sold for 22 to 25 hryvnias per kilogram, and melons can be purchased for 50-55 hryvnias per kilogram.
Oleksandr Voropaev, director of the "Pochatok" market, reported on the prices and prospects of the market for the summer season. He also noted that the arrival of Ovidiopol watermelons, which buyers are already waiting for, is expected this week.
According to Voropaev, watermelons from Kherson have not yet arrived at the "Pochatok" market, but they are expected in the coming days. Local sellers from the Kherson region are already actively engaged in the resale of local watermelons to meet the demand for quality melon products in the region.
"Due to the high temperatures in Odesa, we hope for sufficient volumes of quality products to satisfy the demand not only of local residents, but also of tourists who actively rest on local beaches," Voropaev emphasized.
The Pochatok market has already become a popular place to buy fresh melons in the Odesa region. This season promises to be successful thanks to the diversity of crops and competitive prices, which is important to ensure quality and affordable food for the local population.
According to forecasts, the watermelon season in Odesa will last until mid-autumn, taking into account the arrival of new batches of watermelons and melons from various regions of the region.
