In May 2024, the volume of cattle slaughter in Ukraine significantly decreased compared to previous periods. According to the Ministry of Agricultural and Industrial Development, 12 thousand tons of cattle were slaughtered in farms of all categories, which is 67% less than in April 2024 and 33% less than in May 2023. These figures are confirmed by information from Milk.ua.

In the period January-May 2024, Ukraine produced 79.4 thousand tons of beef, which is 6% less than in the same period of the previous year. The industrial sector played a significant role in production, providing 38% of the total slaughter volume, while households produced 63% of the beef.

At the enterprises of the industrial sector of Ukraine, the volume of cattle slaughter in May amounted to 4.5 thousand tons, which is 84% less than in April 2024, and 64% less than in May of the previous year. In the period January-May 2024, the industrial sector produced 32.7 thousand tons of beef, which is also 6% less than in the corresponding period of 2023.

The decline in the volume of cattle slaughter in Ukraine is caused by a number of factors, including economic difficulties, changes in the conditions of keeping and growing livestock, as well as the influence of external economic conditions. Falling production may affect market prices for meat and dairy products in Ukraine, as well as force agricultural enterprises to reconsider their strategies for raising and slaughtering cattle.

Analysts note that it is important to carry out a comprehensive analysis of the situation on the cattle market and develop effective measures to support and develop the Ukrainian agricultural sector. Continuation of monitoring and improvement of management decisions can help to stabilize the situation and preserve the competitiveness of the industry on the international market.
