Reduction of cheese consumption in Ukraine: analysis of reasons

23 июл, 15:00

The Ukrainian cheese market has undergone significant changes in recent months due to a number of economic and climatic factors that have affected the consumption of this popular product. One of the main reasons is the abnormal heat that has gripped the country, leading to long-term power outages. This caused a significant decrease in the consumption of perishable products, which includes cheese.

According to the data of the agricultural agency Infagro, cheese producers have so far refrained from increasing the prices of their products, despite the increase in the cost of production. However, there is a threat of a future increase in cheese prices already at the end of summer due to active work with chains and distributors.

Imported cheese continues to remain popular on the market, despite the increase in its cost price due to the devaluation of the hryvnia and logistical difficulties. This led to the fact that imports increased by 3% during the first half of the year compared to last year, which significantly affected the competitiveness of domestic manufacturers.

On the other hand, Ukrainian manufacturers are actively expanding their export opportunities, using the potential of devaluation in favor of export operations. During the first half of the year, the export of semi-hard cheese increased by 7%, reaching record figures in recent years. This development shows the growing competitiveness of Ukrainian cheese on the international market.

The Ukrainian cheese market remains dynamic and depends on many changing factors, including climatic conditions, economic stability and international trade relations. Forecasting the further development of the situation, experts advise manufacturers to refrain from sudden price changes and focus on improving product quality and developing export markets.
