African swine fever: outbreaks recorded in five regions of Ukraine

In July 2024, African swine fever (ASF) spread across Ukraine, in particular, cases of the disease were recorded in five regions, PigUa reports.

In particular, an outbreak of ASF was registered in Sumy Oblast in the village of Hrytsyny, Sumy District, where the private enterprise "Nagy" is located, as a result of which pigs died.

Mykolayiv region was also affected by ASF. The outbreak was detected in the non-commercial auxiliary farm of the private enterprise "Stokolos", located in the village of Vysunsk, Bashtan district. 25 pigs died there.

Two cases of ASF outbreaks were recorded in Kyiv Region. The first occurred in a personal peasant household in the village of Chernyakhiv, Obukhiv district, where the disease led to the death of a pig. The second outbreak was discovered at an unauthorized dump near the village of Sharky, Bilotserkiv district, where pig carcasses were found.

Chernihiv region was also affected by ASF. Five pigs died at the Mykolaivka agricultural firm near the village of Mykolaivka, Prylutsky district. In total, 347 heads are kept in the farm. Another outbreak was registered in the subsidiary farm of the Degtyariv professional agricultural lyceum in the village of Digtyari, Prylutsky district, where 25 pigs from a herd of 67 died. In addition, ASF was detected in a personal household in the village of Pylypcha, Chernihiv district.

In Vinnytsia, an outbreak of the disease was recorded at "Velikokisnytske" LLC, located in the village of Velika Kisnytsia, Mohylov-Podilskyi district, where one pig died.

In each of the cases, measures were taken to identify epizootic outbreaks, protection and surveillance zones were established, and action plans were approved to eliminate outbreaks and prevent further spread of ASF.
