Despite the decrease in the volume of milk, Ukraine continues to increase the export of dairy products, in particular butter. This became possible thanks to the increase in world prices for milk fat and the shortage on the market, said the analyst of the Association of Milk Producers, Georgy Kukhaleishvili.
In August 2024, Ukraine noted an increase in the export of dairy products to 10.38 thousand tons for a total amount of $24.92 million. This is 10% more in real terms compared to July this year and 13% more than August 2023.
In the first eight months of 2024, 82.96 thousand tons of dairy products worth $199.49 million were exported. In natural volumes, exports grew by 10%, and cash income grew by 8% compared to the same period last year.
The main categories of exports in monetary terms in August were: milk and cream (26%), butter (26%), ice cream (18%) and cheeses (17%). This shows that Ukrainian products are in demand on world markets.
Georgy Kukhaleishvili notes that the increase in the volume of dairy products exports in August was caused by several factors. Among them are the global shortage of fats, the reduction of raw milk production volumes in various regions, the increase in world prices for stock exchange goods, as well as the devaluation of the hryvnia.
Although raw milk prices in Ukraine have increased, they are still lower than European prices, making domestic dairy products, particularly butter, attractive to international buyers. These factors contribute to the increase of Ukrainian exports and confirm its competitiveness on the global market.
