Ukraine and Turkey intensify cooperation in the agricultural sector

Ukraine continues to strengthen trade relations with Turkey in the field of agriculture and food. An important step in this direction was the meeting of the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Vitaliy Koval and the First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko with the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Turkey Omer Bolat. The parties discussed the prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation, in particular in the field of animal husbandry and opening new markets.

According to Vitaliy Koval, Turkey is already one of Ukraine's key trading partners, ranking fourth in terms of trade turnover. In 2023, the total volume of agricultural trade between the countries amounted to $2.2 billion, of which Ukrainian exports reached $1.6 billion. The main goods supplied to Turkey are corn, sunflower oil, soybeans, sugar and other traditional agricultural crops.

During the visit, the Ukrainian delegation also held a meeting with representatives of Turkish business, which was attended by about 50 companies. Among them were leading producers of feed, meat products, food products and logistics services in the food sector.

The Minister of Agricultural Policy presented the priority areas of development of Ukrainian agriculture, paying special attention to livestock breeding and deep processing of agricultural products. He also called on Turkish entrepreneurs to consider the possibility of investing in the construction of processing plants in Ukraine, which will contribute to the creation of added value and strengthening economic ties between the countries.

“I am convinced that Turkish agro-processing companies can find new promising markets for their business in Ukraine. This will be beneficial to both countries. We are committed to expanding mutually beneficial cooperation not only at the government level, but also between business associations,” Vitaliy Koval emphasized.

Expanding cooperation with Turkey in the agribusiness sector opens up new opportunities for Ukraine to develop exports, attract investments, and introduce modern technologies in agricultural processing. It is expected that further negotiations will contribute to the conclusion of new trade agreements that will strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries in the field of agribusiness.
