Bread prices in Ukraine are rising: what is known as of early 2025

A rise in the cost of bread, in particular wheat and rye-wheat varieties, has been recorded in Ukraine. The average price of wheat bread is currently 52 hryvnias per kilogram, and rye bread is within 45-48 hryvnias. The most noticeable growth is observed in the segment of mixed bread varieties that combine wheat and rye flour.

According to the Ukragropromproductivnist Research Institute, in February 2025 the cost of basic bakery products in Ukrainian supermarkets fluctuates within the following limits: a loaf of wheat bread weighing 650 grams costs from 37.50 to 43.10 hryvnias, rye bread weighing 950 grams costs from 32.10 to 38.45 hryvnias, and a loaf weighing 500 grams costs within the range of 27.50-31.20 hryvnias.

The highest price indicators are recorded in the Auchan retail chain, and the lowest - in Megamarket. The price difference depends not only on the region, but also on the purchasing policy of the chains themselves. Experts also note that production costs have a significant impact on the final cost of products.

The cost structure of bread shows that 30% of costs are for flour, 25% for energy, 20% for logistics and packaging, 15% for labor, and another 10% are for equipment depreciation. Thus, any changes in these components directly affect the final cost of bakery products.

Analysts predict a further monthly increase in prices at the level of 1.5-3%. If this trend continues, by the end of 2025, bread in Ukraine may increase in price by a total of 20-25%. The main reasons for this are inflationary pressure, increased energy costs, and possible changes in grain yields.

Despite the increase in cost, demand for bread remains stable. However, some manufacturers are already looking for ways to optimize costs, considering the possibility of switching to alternative energy sources and improving logistics processes in order to curb the pace of price increases.
