How and where Ukrainians can apply for a passport abroad

After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, millions of Ukrainians were forced to leave their native country and seek refuge in different corners of the world. One of the main issues that arises for our fellow citizens abroad is the application of documents - in particular, obtaining or renewing a passport. This need remains relevant for those who plan to travel, move or legalize their status.

There are currently two main ways to apply for a Ukrainian passport abroad. The first is through Ukrainian diplomatic institutions, the second is in specialized service centers of the state enterprise "Dokument". Both options require a prior appointment and have their own characteristics depending on the country of residence.

Ukrainian embassies and consulates, which operate in many countries of the world, provide citizens with consular services, including the reception of documents for applying for a passport. However, it is worth keeping in mind: the demand for these services is growing, so the wait for an appointment can be delayed for several weeks or even months. Up-to-date information on the location and contacts of diplomatic institutions can be found on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The second option is to use the service centers for citizens of the State Enterprise "Dokument", which operate abroad on the principle of Ukrainian ASNs. They operate in a convenient format, often offering faster service, comfortable conditions and the possibility of urgent document processing. Currently, such centers are already operating in several countries, in particular in Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and are constantly expanding their geography.

The advantage of such centers is that the process of submitting documents is usually less bureaucratic, and it is easier to register with them online. However, it is worth checking the list of available services in advance, since not all centers can process each type of application - some provide only passport processing services, others also provide certificates, certificates, etc.

Regardless of the option chosen, citizens should take into account that passport processing abroad may take longer than in Ukraine. Therefore, it is better to plan the submission of documents in advance, especially if there is a need to travel to another country, apply for a visa, or obtain a residence permit.
