Agricultural sector in the plus: Ukrainian companies increased profits, some by dozens of times

The Ukrainian agricultural sector demonstrates impressive financial dynamics: the total income of the leading agricultural companies included in the Opendatabot Index in 2023 reached UAH 146.16 billion - 70% more compared to the previous year. For the first time since the beginning of the full-scale war, all market leaders ended the year with a profit.

The total profit of the companies on this list amounted to almost UAH 20 billion. The largest share of profit and income was provided by enterprises included in the financial and industrial group "MHP" of Yuriy Kosyuk. They account for 71% of the total income and 67% of the profit of the entire top ten.

The rating was topped by "Vinnytsia Poultry Farm", which belongs to MHP. The company showed a 27% increase in revenue to UAH 49.7 billion, and its net profit increased 6.5 times, reaching UAH 4.02 billion. In second place is another company from the group, Myronivska Ptakhofabrika, with revenue of UAH 24.97 billion (+17%) and profit of UAH 3.12 billion (2.3 times more than a year earlier).

The record holder in terms of profitability growth was Lebedynskyi Seed Plant, which is part of LNZ Group. Over the year, the company's profit increased 43 times to UAH 143 million, and the company's revenue amounted to UAH 18.7 billion (+19%). No other agricultural company from the Index showed such a jump.

The company Zernoproduct from MHP, which suffered losses in 2023, was able to return to profitable activity. Its revenue almost doubled to UAH 9.98 billion, and profit amounted to UAH 2.43 billion. The company's success became one of the most striking examples of anti-crisis recovery in the industry.

The leaders also included the agricultural enterprises of Andriy Verevsky's Kernel group. In particular, Enselko Agro became the most profitable company among all - UAH 4.22 billion in profit, which is almost 4 times more than last year. At the same time, its revenue grew by only 33% - to UAH 9.67 billion. Another company in the group - Druzhba-Nova - rose to sixth place with revenue of UAH 8.16 billion (+9%) and profit of UAH 1.88 billion against a loss of UAH 1.81 billion in 2023.

The top ten also included: "NVF Urozhai" (MHP) with a profit of UAH 1.77 billion, "Starynska Ptakhovabrika" (MHP) - UAH 1.12 billion in profit, PK "Dniprovsky" (agroholding of Oleksandr Ryazanov) - UAH 365 million and "Oril-Leader" (MHP) - UAH 0.84 billion in profit. While Oleksiy Poroshenko's business structures - "PK Podillya" and "PK Zorya Podillya" - left the rating due to a decrease in positions. Their combined income in 2023 amounted to UAH 9.89 billion.

Thus, Ukrainian farmers not only survived the war, but also demonstrated the ability to large-scale financial growth, confirming the strategic importance of the industry for the country's economy.
