A new wave of greenhouse tomatoes is being observed in Ukraine. The reason is the decrease in demand among domestic consumers, which has already affected market prices. Producers are forced to review their pricing policy in order to avoid losses and unload warehouses.
According to market analysts, as of the current week, the cost of greenhouse tomatoes on the Ukrainian market ranges from 65 to 80 hryvnias per kilogram. In dollar terms, this is approximately 1.57–1.93 US dollars. The price range depends on both the variety of products and the volume of batches sold.
Compared to the previous week, the average price level decreased by 20%. This indicates a trend towards further price reduction, which was formed due to the insufficient level of product sales.
It is noteworthy that even after this decrease, current prices are 23% higher than in mid-May 2024. Thus, the decline has not yet covered the previous growth recorded in the first half of the season.
Representatives of greenhouse farms are concerned about the situation. They admit that if the current sales pace is maintained, prices will have to be reduced even more. The main goal is to avoid the accumulation of residues in warehouses, which can lead to additional financial losses.
Market experts predict that in the event of a further increase in supply without a corresponding revival in demand, the situation may affect the entire industry. In the short term, farmers may revise production volumes or more actively enter export markets to maintain profitability.
