The number of electric vehicles in Ukraine is showing steady growth: according to official data from the Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, by the beginning of summer 2025, over 160 thousand vehicles powered by battery power sources (BEV) had already been registered in the country.
From January to May 2025 alone, over 37 thousand electric cars were registered. The Ministry of Internal Affairs emphasizes that the growth dynamics is constant - more and more applications for registration of such vehicles are recorded every month. This indicates a steady increase in demand for electric vehicles among Ukrainians, as well as a gradual shift away from cars with internal combustion engines.
It is worth noting that in Ukraine, special registration conditions are provided for electric cars. In particular, owners of such cars receive characteristic green license plates, which immediately distinguish environmentally friendly transport from traditional ones. These numbers are mandatory only for vehicles with a fully electric drive.
Another advantage for owners of electric cars is the exemption from paying the pension fee during the first state registration. This approach not only eases the financial burden on buyers, but also creates additional incentives for the transition to electric transport.
The active introduction of electric cars also corresponds to global trends in the field of sustainable development and decarbonization. The Ukrainian car fleet is gradually being updated towards more environmentally friendly solutions, which has a positive impact on both the urban environment and the country's energy independence.
Thus, the growth in the number of electric cars in Ukraine is not only an indicator of changes in consumer preferences, but also part of a broader transformation of the transport sector. It is expected that by the end of 2025 this segment will continue to expand, and the state will continue to support "green" initiatives in the automotive sector.
