A large-scale infrastructure project is being launched in Lviv to build a new tram line that will connect the city center with the UNBROKEN rehabilitation center. The implementation of this idea was made possible thanks to the financial support of the French Development Agency, which provided a grant of €5 million. This was announced by the city’s mayor, Andriy Sadovyi.
This project is considered one of the largest in the city’s transport development in recent years. Its key goal is to provide convenient and barrier-free transport connections between the central part of Lviv and the UNBROKEN hospital and rehabilitation center, which plays a critically important role in helping war victims.
The first stage is planned to completely reconstruct Mykolaychuk Street. The project provides for the construction of four lanes for car traffic, a bicycle path, sidewalks with barrier-free access, as well as a special base for laying tram rails. This will allow in the future to quickly lay the line itself and launch public transport.
According to Sadovy, the implementation of this infrastructure project will not only improve the mobility of citizens, but also make rehabilitation services at the UNBROKEN center much more accessible to patients and visitors from all districts of Lviv.
The funding was provided in the form of a non-repayable grant, which is an example of effective international cooperation and support for Ukraine from European partners. This is not the first time that the French Development Agency has supported Ukrainian cities in implementing important social and transport initiatives.
The project is expected to become an example of a modern approach to urban planning and sustainable transport development in Lviv. Its implementation will create the basis for further expansion of the tram network, reduction of emissions and improvement of the quality of life of residents.
