The capital of Ukraine is actively restoring residential buildings that were damaged as a result of Russian military operations. According to city authorities, more than 3 thousand buildings have been seriously damaged since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than half of which are apartment complexes. The fact that the number of damaged facilities doubled in 2025 is especially shocking.
According to information from the city administration, since 2022, 3,129 buildings have become victims of military operations in Kyiv, of which 2,134 are apartment complexes. This year alone, the number of damaged buildings has increased by 957 units.
The city authorities are actively restoring the housing stock that was damaged by shelling by Russian troops. Today, the list of the most damaged apartment buildings from which residents had to be evacuated includes 88 facilities, 49 of which were evacuated this year.
Thus, in 2025, the number of seriously damaged housing in Kyiv doubled compared to previous years of the war. According to official sources, 25 such buildings have already been restored, work is ongoing on 7 more facilities, and the rest are at the design and permit stages.
After the shelling, assistance centers were quickly opened in the affected areas of the city, where residents could receive the necessary legal and psychological support, consultations on applying for assistance, and assistance in preparing the necessary documents.
According to the city program "Care. Towards the People of Kyiv", victims have the opportunity to receive financial support in the amount of up to 10,000 UAH once, as well as compensation for renting housing in case their own housing is unfit for living. Monthly compensation of up to 20,000 UAH is also provided until the restoration of housing, or through the "eReconstruction" program within the framework of the "Action" initiative.
