The Ukrainian automobile market has demonstrated a historic change - in September 2025, electric cars exceeded traditional gasoline cars in sales for the first time. According to the Ukravtoprom association, the share of cars with internal combustion engines decreased to 47% of the market, while a third of all new sales were provided by electric cars.
For comparison, last year, cars with gasoline and diesel engines dominated the market, covering about 63% of all sales. Thus, their share decreased by 16 percentage points, which indicates the rapid growth of the popularity of electric vehicles among Ukrainians.
Analysts emphasize that in September 2025, it was fully electric models that became the most popular among new passenger cars in Ukraine for the first time. They occupied about a third of the market, while in September 2024 their share was only 15.3%. This indicator almost doubled in a year, which became one of the most dynamic growth rates in the history of the Ukrainian automotive industry.
Gasoline cars remained in second place in popularity. However, their share decreased significantly - from 36.8% in September 2024 to 31.2% this year. Hybrid cars lost some ground, covering 20.3% of the market compared to 21.5% a year earlier.
Diesel models continue to lose ground: if last year their share was 26%, then in September 2025 it decreased to 15.3%. Cars equipped with gas cylinder installations (GBO) traditionally remain a niche segment - their sales do not exceed 1% of the total number of new passenger cars.
According to Ukravtoprom's calculations, the most popular models in their categories were: among electric cars — Volkswagen ID.Unyx, among gasoline cars — Hyundai Tucson, among hybrids — Toyota RAV4, among diesel cars — Renault Duster, and among cars with LPG — again Hyundai Tucson.
Experts believe that the growth in demand for electric cars is due not only to environmental considerations, but also to the expansion of the network of charging stations, state benefits during customs clearance and a decrease in the cost of new models. The Ukrainian market is gradually repeating the trends in Europe, where electric vehicles have already become an integral part of modern mobility.
