A new project “Communication Generator” has been launched in Ukraine, which will allow owners of powerful generators to temporarily transfer them to mobile operators for use. The initiative is aimed at ensuring the operation of base stations during periods of power outages so that citizens can stay connected in critical situations. This was reported by the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
Within the framework of the program, businesses and responsible citizens can join in supporting the communication system by providing their generators with a capacity of 7.2 kW or more to power base stations. According to representatives of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, this will not only help maintain the operation of mobile networks during blackouts, but will also allow equipment owners to receive additional income.
The Ministry emphasizes that during power outages, mobile communications are critically important for the safety of citizens - it is through them that Ukrainians can call an ambulance, receive emergency notifications, or inform loved ones about their whereabouts. “Each connected generator is a real help for people to stay connected in the most difficult moments,” the department emphasized.
Program participants will be able to receive payment in the amount of 110 to 140 hryvnias per hour of generator operation, depending on the form of ownership. Thus, for 12 hours of continuous power supply to the base station, an individual can expect a reward of about 1,320 hryvnias, and a legal entity - approximately 1,720 hryvnias.
To join the project, you need to call the hotline, where the operator will help determine the nearest base station, explain the conditions of participation, calculate the approximate payment and transfer the contacts to the responsible specialist. After that, a mobile operator specialist will contact the owner, check the technical characteristics of the equipment and conclude an appropriate agreement.
Under the terms of the project, the owner of the generator is responsible for its maintenance and refueling, while the mobile operator provides technical connection to its network. This approach, according to the Ministry of Digital Transformation, demonstrates effective interaction between the state, business, and citizens in the common cause of strengthening the resilience of communications in the face of energy challenges.
