Starlink has urged some of its users to update their equipment by November 17, 2025. As stated on the official support page, the update is critical and applies to terminals with an outdated software version. Failure to comply with the requirements may result in the equipment completely stopping working or losing access to the Internet.
Only those customers who have received a notification via email or through the Starlink application are subject to the mandatory update. Such users need to connect their terminal to the power grid to ensure automatic installation of the new software version. The company emphasizes that the update does not require an active tariff plan and is free of charge.
Starlink has divided users into two categories. The first group must simply connect the equipment to the power supply, otherwise the terminal will become completely inoperable after November 18, 2025. The second group must independently perform the update via the mobile application. If you don’t do this, your device will lose access to the network until the new software version is installed.
According to the company, the update procedure takes 15 to 30 minutes, although in some cases it can be completed in a few seconds. It does not require additional equipment or technical knowledge - stable power supply and connection of the terminal are enough.
Starlink explains that the goal of the update is to improve the security, stability and performance of the satellite network. Outdated software versions can pose risks to the operation of the terminals, so the company insists on updating the systems by a certain deadline. In particular:
devices with versions before 2024.05.0 must be updated immediately, otherwise they will become unusable;
terminals with versions from 2024.05.0 to 2024.12.26 can be updated manually via the application;
users with versions after 2024.12.26 do not need to do anything yet.
If users are unable to connect their terminal to the power grid by November 17, the company recommends contacting Starlink support for instructions or assistance.
Thus, this update will be part of the company's plan to strengthen the cybersecurity and reliability of the global Starlink network, which is actively used in the civil and military sectors, including in Ukraine.
