In October 2025, Ukraine increased the volume of dairy product exports by 4% compared to September, but cash revenue decreased by 2%. The main reasons for the decrease in revenues were low prices in the EU and increased competition in the markets of post-Soviet countries, the press service of the Milk Producers Association reports.
Among the export categories, cheeses (27%), butter (21%), condensed milk and cream (20%) and casein (9%) are leading. At the same time, in October, Ukraine reduced the export of butter to 714 tons (-22%) and ice cream to 348 tons (-49.6%) compared to September. At the same time, whey supplies increased to 1.31 thousand tons (+25%) and cheese to 1.41 thousand tons (+16%).
Compared to October 2024, exports of Ukrainian fermented milk products increased by 37%, whey by 62%, while supplies of butter (-11%), ice cream (-16%) and milk with cream (-5–13%) decreased.
In monetary terms, the largest increase in the month was recorded in non-condensed milk and cream (+10% to $1.88 million), whey (+27% to $1.44 million), cheeses (+21% to $6.62 million) and casein (+13% to $2.12 million). At the same time, revenue from butter and ice cream decreased by 24% and 46%, respectively. Compared to October 2024, the largest increase in revenue was recorded for sour-milk products (+62%) and whey (+109%), while revenues from butter and ice cream decreased by 15% and 7%.
The main sales markets remain Moldova, Poland and Germany. In particular, Moldova imports 92% of non-condensed milk and cream, 84% of sour-milk products, 29% of butter and 34% of cheeses. Poland purchases 19.5% of condensed milk and cream, 34% of whey and 49% of casein, and Germany - 29% of ice cream.
Analyst Georgy Kukhaleyshvili notes that after October 29, exports to the EU under new quotas have not resumed. European traders are offering lower prices due to falling stock market quotes, in particular for butter in Germany, the Netherlands and Oceania. Due to the increase in competitors' supply, butter supplies to Kazakhstan, Moldova and the South Caucasus have decreased. At the same time, prospects for Ukrainian producers remain in other markets, in particular in Southeast Asia and Africa, where a high deficit of dairy products is expected by 2035.
As for imports, in October 2025, Ukraine imported 5.89 thousand tons of dairy products worth $ 31.87 million, which is 7% less than in September, but 20% more than in October 2024. The main share of imported goods is cheese - 64%, with Poland providing 44% of supplies, and Germany is the leader in the supply of butter and casein (24.5% and 73%, respectively). The foreign trade balance for October remained negative and amounted to $ 7.2 million.
